Rekindling Ministries

Here is a list of excellent books that will aid you in rekindling your passion for God, others and self.

God and Science Apologetics

Fire in the Equations. This is one that attempts an 'unbiased' approached and is fairly successful. Really deep, really gets you thinking.

The Wonders of God. A very philosophical book, also unbiased as a discussion between an atheist and a believer in the idea of a higher power.

The Science of God.  Some controversial, but interesting ideas, especially on the timeline of the universe.

Tornado in a Junkyard. Written by an Atheist who converted to Christianity after he realized he couldn't disprove Creationism and found that Evolutionism was full of holes.

I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist. I haven't read this yet, but hear very, very good things about it.

The Language of God. Haven't read it yet, but heard great things about it as well.

The Case for the Creator. Former Agnostic who converted after a lot of research into God, science, faith, etc.

Bible Apologetics

Learn the Bible in 24 Hours. This is a must read. This is the book that opened my eyes to the wonders found in the Scriptures. It is very heavy with lots of details and mind-stretching information.

Cosmic Codes. Another heavy book from Missler, talking about the validity of Scriptures. Pretty deep stuff.

The Handwriting of God & The Signature of God. A fantastic book about the historical (and more) validity of the Scriptures. Tons of good material.

The New Evidence Demands a Verdict. This is like a text book, with all kinds of crazy, detailed information regarding the validity of Christianity.

The Case for Christ. Explores the validity of the Gospels, ie Christ living and being crucified and such.

The Case for the Real Jesus. A further, more detailed study on the validity of Jesus and the Gospels. Refutes a lot of Ehrman's accusations.

Bibles

NASB Inductive Study Bible. This is the one I now regularly use. It's the best word-for-word translation and has good outlines and questions for each book.

Quest Study Bible. This is the one that I used when I first became a Christian. I love it.

Apologetics Bible. I also use this one quite a bit.

NKJV Chronological Study Bible. Probably my favorite in the way of looks and style. Takes some getting used to since all the chapters are laid out chronologically.

Life Application Study Bible. If you like practical applications to faith, this might be a good one.

Archaeological Study Bible. This is a great one if you like history/geography/etc, learning how the Bible is extremely accurate and impressive.

Better understanding the Bible

Halley's Bible Handbook, Deluxe Edition. A comprehensive background book with all kinds of information to better understand the Bible.

The Complete Guide to the Bible.  A very easy to read book, with great visuals to give you basic background for the different books of the Bible.

New Illustrated Bible Manners and Customs.  Brings in a LOT of background information that can help Scripture jump off the pages!

Jesus, the Middle Eastern Storyteller.  Understanding Middle Eastern culture to get the most out of Jesus' parables.

Pauls' Metaphors.  Understanding the context and character of the Roman culture to get the most out of Paul's teachings.

God's Outrageous Claims.  Highlighting some of the greatest and most powerful truths of the Bible.

Across the Spectrum.  Highlighting some of the most common 'debates' of theology among evangelical Christians.

The Scripture Principle. I like this book a lot, though many will find it controversial. I think it gives a very good break-down on how we should view the Bible. Pretty heavy stuff.

The Sign. A really eye-opening book about the timeline of the End Times. I don't agree 100% with all the author's conclusions, but overall this is an extremely thorough and Scripture-based book. I highly encourage everyone to read this.

Helping you strengthen your faith in God

The Case for Faith. A good, intellectual book on the reasons to trust in God.

If God is good.  A great, thorough treatise on why God allows suffering and evil to exist.

66 Love Letters.  Reading the Bible as a love letter from God.

Soultalk. A stirring book about the bottom-line for how we are to interact with each other.

Waking the Dead. Another stirring book that can get you excited about an abundant relationship with God.

Heaven. I LOVE this book. This is where I got the idea about choosing your house/location in Heaven that many of us have talked about.

George Muller: the Guardian of Bristol's Orphans. This book moved me, and showed me the power of what can happen if you just have incredible faith in God and act on it daily.

Practice of the Presence of God. This book is pretty amazing. It constantly shows me how much more humility and focus on God I need in my life. This 17th century monk, to me, is the epitome of what it means to love God.

Choose the Life. This is a pretty strong book, encouraging us to go deeper in our walk and fit ourselves into Christ's plan, not fit Christ into our plans.

Crazy Love. My new favorite author/preacher- Francis Chan rocks! This book I think is a must have for every member of the Body today.

The Practice of God's Presence. This book has really transformed my attitude towards serving God versus serving myself. It's a collection of Andrew Murray's writings over his life, and they are beautiful, practical and soul-cutting.

PAPA Prayer.  Recognizing relational prayer must come before petitionary prayer.

Praying Backwards. A very good explanation of what it actually means to "pray in Jesus' Name", and how we should think about our prayer life.

Truefaced. I really liked this book- it taught me to accept my imperfect nature and let God try to transform me rather than trying to change myself. It just really hit home with me.

When the Enemy Strikes. A practical study of how to survive spiritual warfare. Really good.

Fiction books about spiritual warfare

The Screwtape Letters. A very good British fiction book by CS Lewis that helps explain how Satan hates you and is trying to prevent you from pursuing your calling and drawing closer to God. A very thought-provoking book.

The Chronicles of the Host. There is 4 books in the series total. Good stuff.

This Present Darkness & Piercing this Darkness. These were the two books that opened my eyes to the reality of Spiritual Warfare.

Finding/pursuing your Purpose/Calling in life

The Dreamgiver. An absolute must read. Very applicable, very simple. I think God uses this book alot to impact people.

The Purpose Driven Life. A best seller that may go a long way in encouraging you. It's 40 days of 1 or 2 page chapters that can help guide you in this stage of your life.

Made to Count. I had dinner with this author. A very sincere man.

Twelve Ordinary Men and Twelve Extraordinary Women. Great books about how God uses screw-ups (ie, any typical human) to accomplish His greatest works. If God can create His Earthly Kingdom, the church, through 12 crazy, imperfect men, then He can use and I to do just as amazing things. The second book I haven't read yet, but it seems like it follows along the same lines.

If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get out of the Boat. Taking risks for God. Going further than you thought possible.

Visioneering. Once you have an idea of what your calling/purpose in life is, this book can help you engineer it to reality.
